Preposiciones de lugar en inglés: in, on, under, in front of, behind, between

Existen 7 preposiciones de lugar en inglés: in, on, under, in front of, behind, between y next to. Este tema en inglés se conoce como Prepositions of Place. En esta lección aprenderás el significado de las preposiciones de lugar más usuales a través de ejemplos, imágenes y un video de explicación. Veamos cada preposición por separado:

In: dentro de o en

› The ring is in my pocket. / El anillo está en mi bolsillo.

› Your new phone is in the blue box. / Tu nuevo teléfono está en la caja azul.

Behind: detrás de o atrás de

› The lamps are behind the curtain. / Las lamparas están detrás de la cortina.

› The dictionary is behind the printer. / El diccionario está detrás de la impresora.

On: sobre o encima de

También se usa para expresiones como: en la pared (on the wall) y en el techo (on the ceiling).

› The phone is on the bed. / El teléfono está sobre la cama.

› The new painting is on the wall. / El nuevo cuadro está en (sobre) la pared.

› The broken lamp is still on the ceiling. / La lámpara rota todavía está en el techo.

Next to: al lado de

› My house is next to a big library. / Mi casa está al lado de una biblioteca grande.

› The old stove is next to the new sink. / La estufa vieja está al lado del fregadero nuevo.

Under: debajo de

› There is a nice restaurant under that bridge. / Hay un buen restaurante debajo de ese puente.

› The green notebook is under the dog’s bed. / El cuaderno verde está debajo de la cama del perro.

In front of: en frente de o delante de

› My older brother is in front of the TV. / Mi hermano mayor está en frente del televisor.

› The salt shaker is in front of the napkin holder. / El salero está frente al servilletero.

Between: en medio de o entre

› The police station is between the bank and my house. / La estación de policía está entre el banco y mi casa.

› There is a gym between the restaurant and the school. / Hay un gimnasio entre el restaurante y la escuela.

Aclaración:

Muchas veces los hablantes del español comenten el error de agregar de forma incorrecta la palabra OF delante de las preposiciones de lugar en inglés (behind of, under of). Esto tiene sentido en español, pero NO en inglés. Ejemplo:

• Incorrecto: The TV is under of the bed.
• Correcto: The TV is under the bed. / El televisor está debajo de la cama.

Solo necesitamos la preposición OF para IN FRONT OF que significa EN FRENTE DE; para el resto de preposiciones no necesitamos OF.
